Auston Matthews does a lot of things well on the ice. Scoring in the season opener and against Ottawa are two things he excels at. Matthews scored twice last night to help the Leafs win their season opener 5-3 against Ottawa. Matthews has scored in all four season openers in his career, picking up nine goals. He’s one of four players in NHL history to score in each of their first, four openers (Clapper, Andreychuk, Fedorov). Matthews now has 12 goals in his career against the Senators, since 2016-17 he has scored the most goals vs Ottawa. Leafs don’t see the Senators again until Feb. 1st.
