Adam Werner had quite the NHL debut last night. After Pavel Francouz was injured 31 seconds into the Avalanche vs Jets game, Werner came off the bench and shutout the Jets the rest of the way. Nice split shutout. Because Werner didn’t start and play the entire game, he does not get a shutout, neither goalie does. The Jets fired 40 shots at Werner including 19 in the third period, he’s a veteran already.
Cale Makar leads all rookies in points this season with 18 in 18GP. Makar has scored in 3 straight games (4 goals) and he has a 5 game point streak where he’s earned 7 points. Makar is coming off being named one of the three stars last week. Makar’s goal scoring streak has come with the Avalanche winning three in a row and the team scoring 17 goals in that span. Pretty good considering the offensive injuries they have.
The Blues had their 7 game win streak end last night, but they’re still streaking in points, 7-01 last 8GP. They’re averaging over 3 goals-for per-game in that span, with their power play clicking at almost 31%. The Blues don’t have the longest active point streak in the league however, that belongs to the Islanders and Capitals, both at 12. The Islanders have gone 11-0-1 in their last 12GP, allowing exactly two goals against in that span. What’s remarkable about the Islanders run is that they have no players averaging a point per-game and their power play has gone 2/19 in the 12 game point streak. The Capitals are 10-0-2 in their last 12GP, and they are filling the net, averaging over 4 goals per-game during their streak and their power play is 10/40.
Going into last nights road game in Anaheim, the Wings had lost 7 straight away from home, scoring only nine goals. Things didn’t look too good for them last night being down 3-1 late in the second but they rallied to win in OT. Detroit is now 3-7-0 on the road this season. They aren’t as bad as Chicago and Ottawa on the road, both of those teams only have 1 road win in 2019-20.
